Wines of Burgundy
Burgundy is mysterious to the amateur who is unable to detect the amazing subtleties between the various terroirs, which takes years to learn. Most people are happy to conclude that whites are made exclusively from Chardonnay, and that reds are made from Pinot Noir, even if there are a few tiny exceptions such as Aligoté or the Pinot Beurot for whites and Gamay for reds, but this is anecdotal… This wine region contains the most exceptional wines which are incredibly subtle and refined when the winemakers are at their best. Burgundy is quite unlike anywhere else… buy the wines of the exceptional winegrowers and forget the names of the appelations – it is still the best way to never be wrong!
