PONSOT Domaine
Laurent Ponsot is one of the most original and talented winemakers in Bourgogne, although he has equally been one of the most criticised at times. Ponsot refuses to fall in line with the current trends, so anybody who tries to discuss “green harvesting” with him or the concept of interventionnisme en cuverie will be greeted by a wry smile. For Ponsot, all the magic happens in the vineyard, a little bit during vinification, and everything else comes down to nature! So Ponsot is certainly swimming against the tide, as the current trend is to want vintages that will taste good at any age. Often brilliant when just bottled, these wines are aged for one or two years, after which they reach a lovely level of maturity. Whilst many people drink them far too early, all the true wine-lovers know that they must be patient… especially as this domaine produces mostly grands crus, and very few village wines or premiers crus, which means cellaring for even longer.
MOREY ST DENIS “cuvée des Grives”, GEVREY CHAMBERTIN “Cuvée de l’Abeille”, CHAMBOLLE “Cuvée des Cigales”, MOREY ST DENIS 1er cru “Cuvée des Alouettes”, CHAMBOLLE MUSIGNY 1er cru “Les Charmes”, and the whole range of grands crus, from the CLOS de VOUGEOT to the CHAMBERTIN, without forgetting CHARMES CHAMBERTIN, CHAPELLE CHAMBERTIN, GRIOTTE CHAMBERTIN, CLOS DE LA ROCHE, and the fabulous CLOS ST DENIS issued from centenarian vines.
The MOREY ST DENIS white”Clos des Monts Luisants” is a vintage mostly made up of ALIGOTÉ grapes.
